Accreditation and Competency

The accreditation and competency guidance explains how people can be assessed as being competent in working with families after they  have completed the 5-day training in Behavioural Family Therapy.

Further info The Trans-cultural Family Work Forum is a group that aims to ensure that Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) families are acknowledged and 'visible' within mental health services. It recognises the diversity of families and aims to promote equal access to those interventions that ensure families are informed, supported and included.

Event name "A Chance to Have Your Say!"
Date/Location Monday 27th February 2006
Further info Meriden's Transcultural Family Work Forum is hosting a consultation event. The morning aims to bring together carers, family members, professionals and users of mental health services, to discuss and identify the key issues that effect the implementation of family work with Black & Minority Ethnic families across the West Midlands.
The event will include facilitated workshops, exploring the views and opinions of all who attend. The Forum will use the information gained to produce a full written report which will be disseminated across the West Midlands. It will then guide the Forum in its Action Plan for the coming year.
Lunch will be provided. Please advise us if you require interpretation services.

Event name Team Managers Training

This course aims to provide managers with an overview of a psychoeducational approach to working with families. Reference will be made to both local and national policy around carers and families, as well as issues to do with implementation and supervision.
This is a brief introductory course, and it is not intended that those who attend will gain all of the skills needed to practice this approach clinically.
The course will provide participants with an understanding of the key components of the Behavioural Family Therapy approach, an understanding of the research and policy which supports the implementation of these approaches in clinical practice, an awareness of the difficulties which team members experience in putting these approaches into practice, and an opportunity to reflect on their role in supporting staff to implement this approach in their work.

Event name Developing A Partnership Between Psychiatrists And Family Members

Further info This event was held on 11th March 05 and was aimed primarily at psychiatrists and family members. Dr Mike Shooter, President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists was the keynote speaker. He discussed the activities of the partners in care campaign and his vision for effective partnership between family members, psychiatrists and those who experience mental health issues. The programme for the day is attached with presentations made by some of the speakers.
